Just a brief respite from the inevitable deluge of knitting posts that will end up on this blog in the next week or so. As per, I still have lots of things to sort out before Graduate Fashion Week and the final hand in, so there’s no rest for the wicked. Luckily I managed to escape to some kind of normality in the days following the fashion show (thanks for all the comments by the way) before it was back to the pile of work. After not being in London for almost 2 months, I finally managed to make a trip down to attend some events (thanks to Ellie at Next who helped with travel) and show my face in blogger society once more. As crazy as it may seem with the decent weather we seem to be having, the AW11 press days are in full force and are now confusing me with furry coats, cosy layers and lace up boots.
I managed to meet up with Winnie for some Japan Centre action before heading to the Very press day situated in the heart of Covent Garden. As much as celebrity designed ranges annoy me somewhat (doing a four-year degree gives you a certain outlook on these sorts of things), I couldn’t help but like some of the Fearne Cotton pieces. I guess the key is just to forget the ‘personality’ involved and look at the clothes for what they are, quirky with a retro twist with pretty prints that will make it onto many a blogger outfit post later this year.
Faux Fur Jacket – Next (briefly worn for the purposes of this photo)
Top – Asos
Skirt belt – Vintage
Socks – c/o Tabio
Brogues – Office
Next was the Next press day (awful pun alert) where my camera seemed to fail me at taking pictures of most of the clothes. Instead, you’ll have to make do with snaps of all the shoes I was drawn to and the vague description of a polka dot dress I need to get my hands on. I was given a challenge to find the perfect Winter coat and ended up choosing this faux fur number, which I was filmed talking about (somehow my words ended up a bit jumbled and hopefully the vid will never see the light of day). Luckiy the trends for next season still involve Peter Pan collars, brogue mutations and midi skirts so there’s not too much more I need to shell out for, though this probably won’t stop me from buying a few more multiples. This seems like the perfect point to ask an AW11 trend related question but it seems far too soon seeing as it’s barely June, instead I wonder how you feel about buying clothes out of sequence? I think that the fur coat will be going into stores next month but it seems crazy to buy such a thing so early. Also remember to vote for Jazmine as she’s entered the model competition they’re hosting and it’d be great to see her win!
I was also very fortunate to receive a new pair of GHD New Wave Straighteners to review (the full range of GHD straighteners can be found on good old Asos) . I haven’t used them yet as I don’t like to straighten my hair too often, but hopefully miracles will happen when I do as I always have trouble doing my own hair and attempting to replicate what the salon does. Part of me wants a change to mark the end of my student life but am loathe to depart from my beloved full fringe, so maybe all will be figured out at the next Aussie party in a few weeks!
