I could stick up for South London until the cows come home. Whenever describing to people where I live, everyone assumes it’s a real mission from the likes of Central London (never mind if they’re from the other side of the country) but in reality it’s a calm overground train away with plenty of signal. Crystal Palace is somewhere I keep meaning to spend a proper afternoon, I’m always passing through but I haven’t managed a visit to the park I used to love as a child for a while. Luckily everything is pretty much the same as I left it. I may be a little too old for the playground now but the dinosaurs are still as fascinating/bizarre as ever plus there’s plenty of leaves to mess about in. Ah nature!

So what to wear for a chilly day in the park? No heels that’s for sure, the wellies came on and even though the shorts may seem impractical at first sight, combined with fleecy tights they’re a force to be reckoned with. Take that Winter! When you think of Havaianas, flip flops and sunshine spring to mind but luckily they cater for the colder months too and I went for this aubergine pair to add to my collection and tackle the mud. My memories of the park are a little foggy and even though I kept consulting the map, I still didn’t manage to make it to the maze before dark. Something to go on the list for next time. I seriously haven’t made the most of having a Grade II listed park in the vicinity and I can’t wait to wander there more often and watch the seasons change.
After our wander, we had a well deserved stop at my favourite local discovery, The Crystal Palace Market. Now I don’t have to trek to Brixton Village for a decent, non-Maccy D’s burger and there’s free wifi so that your Instagrams don’t fail. Everything is locally sourced and handmade (you’ll even be able to buy the produce next door soon), even down to the ketchup and the plentiful salad makes everything seem okay, health-wise. I guess if the former Crystal Palace gets rebuilt again, it could completely change the area and perhaps add to it’s up-and-coming status, but I’m glad that I’ve discovered its benefits before the masses and have so many happy memories here.
