This is not a filler post, I repeat, this is not a filler post. Since it’s almost the end of March (how) and that point in the year where things start to look up (come on sunshine), I thought I’d share a few new bits and bobs I’ve been loving recently. I guess the common thread is that they’re all enhancing my life in some sort of way. My 28th year has made me all kinds of self-aware, so anything I own now needs to actually be of some use to me. Call it the half-hearted Marie Kondo effect or something.
Witness The Fitness
So my Zumba addiction is still going strong. I’m at that point with fitness gear where I have a dedicated box underneath the bed (that means that this shizz is getting serious) and I’m not wearing random Noughties leggings and tops that I’ve repurposed to become sportswear. I now know what I like, loose vest tops that hide the result of my burger-addiction, jazzy leggings and a random pop of colour. I’ve stocked up on a few new variations so that I don’t have worry about washing (and can’t use the excuse of having no clean sets). The High Street is perfect for this, with Next, New Look and Forever 21 having some amazing ranges that give the traditional brands a run for their money. I can’t seem to beat Nike for the perfect loose top though. I don’t think that I can pull off the sporty, athleisure trend on a day-to-day basis, so I love having an excuse for all the cool fabrics and patterns.
Next hoodie, Next leggings (both c/o), Nike Grey Top (similar), Nike Black and White top, Nike trainers (similar)
All The Planners
So I’m probably the 2546th person to blog about Kikki K. Thanks to social media, it’s become a must-visit whenever I’m around the Covent Garden area and their uplifting brand ethos offers a real point of difference. There are goals, dreams and happiness journals, (perfect pressies for any friends going through quarter/mid life crises) but what I really like are the tear-off planners and list pads. I’m already a hoarder of many notebooks and I accept that diaries don’t actually work for me (I bought a few by Frankie magazine, only to forget about them after the first few weeks of the year). I have such a weird system when it comes to organisation, dozens of Google docs, far too many random iPhone notes but in terms of writing things down, I like to have a clear weekly list planner on my desk. It probably wouldn’t work for everyone but I’ve accepted my weird ways and love scribbling things down when they come into my head. I‘ll probably have to update my previous organisational post as I’ve changed up a few things now (plus I also want to start being early for things…this may take some time).
So if you watch my Snapchats and vlogs, you’ll know that I’m actually a closet glasses wearer. It’s mainly for practical reasons (my prescription is so bad, that I need to wear my contacts for applying make-up) but also I guess due to a few insecurities growing up. Over the years I’ve got even braver when it comes to different styles and I’m now sticking to the cat-eye, in its many forms. The Specsavers Red or Dead collaboration came out last year and I wish I could have owned pairs like these when I was a teenager. They suit my personality to a tee and I feel like they enhance my features, rather than hiding them. Fingers crossed that they keep doing similar styles, I want to be rocking metallics and glitter when I’m 80.
Let me what bits and bobs you’ve been buying recently!
