Hello mini heatwave! Yes I’m one of those people who ditches the jumpers and starts planning barbecues on the balcony as soon as the weather turns. 24 degrees is all kinds of exciting when you’ve been all about the double glazing film since October and I’m looking forward to getting my pins out again. See you later, 100 deniers!
To celebrate the launch of the new Birchbox x Boden collaboration, I’ve donned one of the boldest numbers from their super-cheerful print shop and refreshed my beauty routine with some new products. Every Summer I’m always on the hunt for a nostalgic dress and this one doesn’t disappoint, it’s beautiful! This one is a button-up number, with a full-skirt and clever pockets. I find that these styles work for every situation (I wore this to meet Mary Berry, obvs) and my trick is to add a few metallics if you ever feel like you’ve gone a bit overboard with the colours. My silver sandals, navy belt and yellow micro bag worked a treat for the streets of Kensington.
All of this new season excitement also means that my milestone birthday is fast approaching (eeek) and I’ve been reflecting a lot about my style. It’s a little bit crazy that I can look at most of my twentysomething outfits on this blog and work out who I was attempting to channel (think Alexa Chung and Susie Bubble, sometimes within the same outfit).
I’m definitely a lot more content these days and willing to experiment only if I find the right pieces. I don’t force things any more and I find that just adding one or two unexpected elements is enough. If you’re familiar with my outfits then you’ll probably see the same metallic accessories, leather jackets and subtle print-mixing time and time again.
In terms of beauty, I like a natural look and each year I try and perfect something new. I’ve finally figured out my cat-eye (I keep my liquid eyeliner flat against the lid before changing the direction for the feline flick) and I’ve challenged myself to use my eyeshadow palettes more. I tend to use a lot of better-than-nude lip colours mainly for practicality reasons (I’m too lazy to locate my lip liner) and I’ll be switching to a tinted moisturiser for the Summer months, most likely topping up with powder on an hourly basis.
I always have lots of new things on the go and I like to gradually incorporate products into my routine to see how they fare. It can be a little overwhelming to navigate all of the brands out there though, which is why Birchbox is so handy. If you subscribe, you’ll receive a nice curated edit every month with a combination of full-size and sample products (plus this floral box is one you’ll want to keep). You’re able to customise your profile so that you can ensure that you receive the correct products for your skin tone and hair type and the service will be evolving over the coming months.
So what are my favourite items from the box? Well the Nip & Fab colour corrector is a bit of a gem. For some reason I didn’t really associate the brand with colour products but lo and behold they have a range that comes in a decent amount of shades. I’ve been using the terracotta pen and it’s a little more affordable than the product I was previously using, plus I prefer the mechanism. I’ve been using this most days before my foundation and I just pop this onto the darker areas of my face to even things out a little.
The Amika Shield Style Extending Spray was also used on my wig at the launch event and my curls are still intact, hurrah! I’m pretty low-maintenance when it comes to hair so anything that preserves my style is a blessing. I’ve also been popping the Baïja Paris shea butter body cream in my bag, since my skin can get a little dry throughout the day plus I’ve been experimenting with the Manna Kadar Cosmetics HD Powder as an eyeshadow base. It’s a nice little selection, which has made me want to investigate a few new brands that I hadn’t even considered (plus the inclusion of the Polaar Arctic Scrub has reminded me that I haven’t exfoliated in a while)….
Are you a Birchbox devotee? If you’d like to try the box (there’s still time) then use code PIXIWYT to receive a free Pixi by Petra shea butter lip balm. Could be a nice Easter treat!
