I’m back on British soil! I wasn’t planning to completely shut down posting here, but the Jamaican personal hotspot allowance wasn’t playing ball (plus I never really got over my jetlag). Even though I’ve returned to snow, this time away has done me the world of good and given me a lot of clarity. I’m excited to get things fired up, start writing up my posts and planning my next trip.
This month’s reading list is another bumper one. I could read about the evolution of blogging until the cows come home, so I loved learning more about Alex’s journey (and devouring her Lifestyle Edit podcast episode too). This video covers something I’ve been thinking about for a while when it comes to size diversity. It can be tricky to talk about feeling underrepresented when it comes to being an ‘in-between’ size, when you can still find clothes that fit (though Mango and me could be falling out for this reason very soon). I’m still figuring out the right words to add to this conversation and the issues created when the media amplifies someone like Jameela Jamil over plus size voices.
I also want to get this newsletter back in motion, so make sure you sign up here for future inbox fun!!
Since there’ll be a lot of travel content coming up soon, I thought I’d share Shea’s inspiring blog The World Up Closer. Her Instagram feed has given me even more places I want to tick off my list and I loved her post explaining how you can explore the globe on a Jamaican passport. I definitely take my British passport for granted and it really makes you think about how things aren’t reciprocal when it comes to entry requirements.
Also if you’ve ever wondered why travel blogging seems pretty white, then here’s a few influencers who are trying to make a change. Oneika also muses about the limitations of the ‘Instagram aesthetic.’
I loved reading about the logic behind Sophie’s discussion to become a full-time blogger. She’s a great writer and her podcast is on fire at the moment too. Alex also posted about her career journey too, salaries and all.
I’ve recommended the A Drink With James YouTube series to anyone who’ll listen (think blogging insights from the brand perspective), so you’ll be pleased to know that they’ve transcribed and made all their episodes searchable. You can thank me later.
A balanced look at RewardStyle.
This juicy read about the original superbloggers taught me that The Blonde Salad ‘skips stories that can’t guarantee her coverage will be bigger than her competitors.’
Fashion has a problem with ‘in-between’ sizes.
How to turn jealousy into motivation.
Why the ‘Slay In Your Lane: Black Girl Bible’ needs to exist.
Was Oprah really the original influencer? Racked puts a pretty good case forward.
I probably should plug my own stuff more, so here goes! I finally finished my ‘How To Make Money Blogging In 2018’ video after brainstorming for the best part of a year.
